So, just what on earth has His Podgeness been doing since the beginning of June: No Posts, not updates, no progress reports, noffink. The truth is, Podge has been feeling very very sorry for himself having somehow picking up three chest infections in a row 🀧. But, with three courses of antibiotics and steroids, it does look as though those nasty germ things have been beaten into submission.

😏

That should help explain the gap between ‘Podge V COPD Week 6’ and ‘Podge V COPD Week 14’

After a shaky start, I did manage to do two rides last week totalling 38 and a bit miles. It was tough and hard on the lungs but good at the same time. This week, my goal will be to do 100 miles: Time will tell (as will my lungs and legs πŸ˜‚).

As the charts show, my weight and BMI go up and down as much Roland Rat in ‘Splat the Rat’ but I aint giving in.

Podge must try harder.

My major goal is to complete 2020 virtual miles in 2020. To date, I’ve completed 508 leaving a mere 1512 to do in the next 158 days: I reckon I can do it so long as I don’t have to take too much more time out. I’ve also walked 43 miles against the Hadrian’s Wall challenge leaving just 47 to go.

As I’m so fond of saying, COPD sucks but I ain’t giving in. I must do better. I will do better.

Until next time, Go Podge Go.😷

On the 18th May, Podge reported that he’d lost 4 packs of lard: Yay, go Podge Go. On the 25th May, Podge reported that he’d put back on 4 packs of lard: Poor Podge had to go and sit on the Naughty Step 😒. Podge went into meltdown and took drastic measures including the Toal ban on Jammy Dodgers: The ban did also include Anti-Viral Medications (AVMs) but that ban was quickly rescinded. This week, Podge is happy to say that in the past week, he has lost two packs of lard (that’s a loss of 50% in 1-week, of that lost in the first 4-weeks). I therefore conclude from this that Jammy Dodgers clearly encourage Lard and AVMs make little or no difference, πŸ˜‚πŸ€ͺ and Podge is sticking by that.

In edition to losing the lard, my BMI has dropped to 30.3 and Body Fat has also dropped to 44.6 while Body Water has gone up to 39.7. The changes are small but, they are all in the right direction: Despite all being, currently, the wrong side of the trend line, all is good in Podge’s world.

Anyway, back to the job in hand. Over the past week, Podge has cycled a total of 74.45 miles and walked a total of 9.4 miles (not bad for COPD St3).

This means that some serious progress has been made on the challenges currently underway (Lands End to John O’Groats [LeJog] and 2020 in respect of cycling and Hadrian’s Wall and the Inca Trail in respect of walking).

I’ve added the Inca Trail purely to encourage Mrs Me to join me on my walks but I don’t report on it. The progress report on Rome-2-Home has been dropped as it is running alongside LeJog and I don’t actually like the route; cycling along major highways just isn’t realistic. For 2021 however I will remap Rome-to-Home to follow the route I would have done if I’d done it for real; as originally planned for at the beginning of the millennium. That route will be sooooo much longer, but prettier.

All rides onΒ BkoolΒ and reported throughΒ Strava. All walks measured using my Apple device.

All virtual challenges are tracked through  β€˜My Virtual Missionβ€˜ and challenges entered through The β€˜Conqueror Virtual Challengeβ€˜ site.

All rides are done in my garage (walks done elsewhereΒ πŸ˜‹) as my GP has banged me up for a minimum of 12 weeks (reset to start from the 11th MayΒ ) due to having Codgers Old Puffing Disease (COPD Stage 3). 😭

Wish me luck – I surely need it.

Podge must stop eating

Nooooooo. Podge has caught more podge. Podge is sooooo sad: Podge is miffed: Podge must try harder: A lot harder. Podge is a Very, Very Bad Lad. Why? Because Podge is back where Podge started: Fat.

Having analysed the past week, I suspect that having a BBQ (with appropriate social distancing) with ones ‘children’ (they’re adults really) may not have been such a good idea. Munching through burgers, sausages, hotdogs (all with requisite bread-rolls) all washed down with large Cobra Beer and Sauvignon Blanc seemed such a good idea at the time. Post BBQ I rewarded myself with a Jammy Dodger and a Choco Leibniz biscuits; individually, they seemed quite small but I suspect many will think that four of each may have been a little excessive as was the clotted cream ice cream. But hey, it’s been a tough couple of months for us all πŸ™‚

I suspect you know where this is leading. Yes, Podge is back to ‘Podge As Was’. Podge has effectively lost diddly squat.

Last week has seen my weight return to 93.4kg so that’s a whole kg of lard back on. My BMI has gone up 0.3% overall, my body-fat has gone up 0.6% and my water content has dropped by 0.3% (apparently, my bones still weight the same though🀨). Naughty Podge. Having said all that, I haven’t had my hair cut since March: How heavy is hair? πŸ˜‚

On the plus side (Podge always looks for silver linings), I did manage to cycle just over 74 miles (my weekly goal is 70) all against the lovely scenic backdrop of my garage.

I also walked a total of 5.5 illicit miles (don’t tell my doctor, she’ll tell me off for breaking lockdown) all in the fields: So I met nobody.

All of this means that I’m making great progress on my Rome to Home (27%) cycling challenge and my Hadrian’s Wall (10%) walking challenge: I’m just back to being fat 😦 :

Podge must stop drinking and eating

This week, His Podgeness has been a very good boy. Not only did he improve in his new weekly mileage goal, but he also lost 1kg in body weight: That’s the equivalent of 4 packs of lard πŸ˜‹). More about that in a bit.

Over the last week, my four [virtual] challenges became five then dropped back to four. In addition to Lands End to John O’Groats (LeJog)], Rome to Home (R2H), 2020 (that’s 20202 miles during the year 2020) and the Great Ocean Road (GOR), I have now added Hadrian’s Wall (HW) though I’m walking this one by sneaking out unseen to walk round the fields out the back (Naughty Podge).

Over this past week, I’ve cycled just over 73 during which I managed to complete the Great Ocean Road (Good Podge) and have walked just over 3 illicit miles (Bad Podge) for my new Hadrian’s Wall challenge.

In respect of the lard reduction challenge, this last week has seen my weight drop to 92.4kg so that a whole kg of lard gone. My BMI has dropped 0.2% overall, my body-fat has dropped 0.4% and my water content has risen by 0.3%, all of which is good. So, it would seem that Podge is a Good Podge and on the right track to become an Old Codger rather then an Old Podger.

The reduction in anti-viral medication consumption may not be as great as it could be, especially as I discovered a 50% Proof Whiskey πŸ₯ƒ just in time for World Whiskey Day on Saturday but overall I still think:

Podge Done Good.

Go Podge, Go.Β

This past week has seen somewhat improvement in miles covered though not as great an improvement as I would have preferred as I did feel more than a little lethargic towards the end of the week, or was I just feeling lazy πŸ™„? That said however, I am still making good progress towards my virtual goals as the graphs below indicate.

The target for completing the three biggest challenges is by the end of the year though obviously if I can complete them earlier I will. The shortest challenge is only 149 miles with only 35 miles left to complete so that will be checked off during the coming week after which I’ll add another shorter trip. The idea of the shorter challenges is that they give me quick results alongside the longer ones and as such maintain motivation. Well, that’s what my mind tells me. πŸ˜‹

On the physical attributes front, this week my weight has dropped back down to just below my starting weight of 93.4 kg: It’s moving in the right direction but a long way from my target of 83.5 but, I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again. Body fat is going down, water composition is going up so hopefully, I’m doing something right: I’m guessing the reduction in anti-viral medication consumption is helping a little πŸ˜‚.

Yesterday, I managed 27 miles so things are getting better. Earlier in the year I struggled to a 3 mile ride. So, my new weekly mileage target is 70 miles a week, up from 30.

Wish me luck.
